Dr. Joanna Sherratt-Wyer

Dr Sherratt-Wyer is a Bermudian and attended the Bermuda High School for Girls and Lancing College in Sussex, England. After completing an Arts degree at Oxford University, she graduated from Nottingham University Medical School in 2004 and joined the Royal Air Force. She then completed the rigorous three year Vocational Training Scheme to become a General Practitioner and was awarded Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2010.  Dr Sherratt-Wyer moved back to Bermuda in 2011 with her husband and two young children.  Since returning home, Dr Sherratt-Wyer has also completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Practical Dermatology from the University of Cardiff.  She is committed to providing excellence in evidence-based health care.

Dr Sherratt-Wyer’s other passion is music and in her spare time she enjoys playing the cello and singing.

 

Samantha DeCouto

Dr. DeCouto is an alumna of BHS and the International Baccalaureate program at United World College in New Mexico as well as Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania where she completed her undergraduate degree.  This was followed by post graduate training in the field of neuroscience at Miami University of Ohio that resulted in two Masters of Science Degrees.

After attending the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completing a dual residency in Internal Medicine/Pediatrics at Christiana Care Health System/Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware, she then worked for two years as a community physician with Christiana Care Health System before joining Somers Medical Services Ltd in 2014, where she currently practices combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics.

Dr. Decouto’s other passion is horses and her spare time is spent at the barn, working with and riding these beloved companions.

 

Nicol Tear

Nurse Nicky is a Registered General Nurse. She trained at Oldchurch Hospital in Essex England before coming to Bermuda where she met and married Michael Tear, and has worked as a registered nurse in private practice in Bermuda since 1991. Nicky joined Somers Medical Services Ltd in 2012 as our primary Practice Nurse, bringing her experience, efficiency and contagious laugh to colleagues and patients alike. Nicky has also been providing asthma education to patients and families over the last ten years as a Certified Asthma Educator.

 

Kara Kapush

Nurse Kara is a Registered General Nurse. Kara graduated from Lakehead University (Canada) in 2013, and worked five years on a Medical/Oncology unit at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in Ontario. She has earned certificates in both Palliative Care and Gerontology, as well as a Chemotherapy Administration certification by the DeSouza Institute in 2016. Married to Najeeb Chentouf, Kara joined Somers Medical Services Ltd in 2018 as a Practice Nurse as well as our Aesthetic Dermatology Nurse/Technician and has undertaken overseas training for the Aerolase LightPod Neo laser. She provides laser treatments such as hair removal, skin rejuvenation, and acne clearance to patients of all skin types.

 

Claire Rushe

Claire is our bilingual (French/English) Receptionist at Somers Medical Services Ltd. She worked at a Maternity Hospital in Switzerland before she began travelling as a children’s nanny, eventually finding her way to Bermuda in 1971 where she met and married George Rushe. She worked for many years as the nanny for a busy Bermudian family and then worked at one of our major golf resort shops as receptionist, greeting visitors from all over the world. Claire joined Somers Medical Services Ltd in August 2015 as our receptionist and brings her experience to our front desk.

 

Marian Sherratt

Marian thought she would enjoy early retirement when her daughter Joanna set up Somers Medical Services Ltd in 2011. She began by helping and advising and is now the Practice Manager, doing all back-office administration while also working one day a week on the front desk as receptionist. She has a Masters degree in Social Anthropology from Dalhousie University, is married to Roger, and has five grandchildren that keep her busy in addition to her work-related responsibilities. She also tries to fit in the odd game of golf.
