Dr. Joanna Sherratt-Wyer
Dr Sherratt-Wyer is a Bermudian and attended the Bermuda High School for Girls and Lancing College in Sussex, England. After completing an Arts degree at Oxford University, she graduated from Nottingham University Medical School in 2004 and joined the Royal Air Force. She then completed the rigorous three year Vocational Training Scheme to become a General Practitioner and was awarded Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2010.
Dr Sherratt-Wyer moved back to Bermuda in 2011 with her husband and two young children. Since returning home, Dr Sherratt-Wyer has also completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Practical Dermatology from the University of Cardiff. She is committed to providing excellence in evidence-based health care. Dr Sherratt-Wyer’s other passion is music and in her spare time she enjoys playing the cello and singing.
Dr. Samantha DeCouto
Dr. DeCouto is an alumna of BHS and the International Baccalaureate program at United World College in New Mexico as well as Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania where she completed her undergraduate degree. This was followed by post graduate training in the field of neuroscience at Miami University of Ohio that resulted in two Masters of Science Degrees.
After attending the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completing a dual residency in Internal Medicine/Pediatrics at Christiana Care Health System/Nemours Children’s Hospital in Delaware, she then worked for two years as a community physician with Christiana Care Health System before joining Somers Medical Services Ltd in 2014, where she currently practices combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics. Dr. Decouto’s other passion is horses and her spare time is spent at the barn, working with and riding these beloved companions.
Dr. Laura Murphy
Dr. Murphy is a Bermudian GP. She attained her Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Leeds in 2006.
Upon graduating she worked for nine years in the UK in internal medicine, pediatrics, gynaecology, psychiatry, emergency medicine and general practice, attaining her specialty qualifications and membership in the Royal College of Physicians, and the Royal College of General Practitioners. She also has post-graduate qualifications in Women’s Health, Diabetes and Palliative Care. Dr Murphy returned to Bermuda in 2015. She has three children and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Dr. Catherine Wakely
Dr Wakely is a familiar face in Bermuda – she has been practicing here for nearly 20 years and is a much beloved Primary Care Physician. Dr Wakely was born in Scotland and obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health before completing her medical degree at Nottingham University.
She has been in practice for thirty years, and has gathered extensive worldwide experience, in the UK, Bermuda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Eswatini, where her two children were born. She set up the first HIV treatment clinics in Eswatini, and founded and ran a charity helping improve access to medical care for the most in need. Dr Wakely’s focus is to compassionately meet the needs of her patients, with a healthy dose of humour and gratitude built into her daily practice.
Dr. Shaina Kelly
Shaina Kelly, a Bermudian, attended Francis Patton, Warwick Academy and Bermuda College before she attended American International College where she received her B.Sc. in Biology. She was awarded her medical degree from Pennsylvania State University before completing a Family Medicine Residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, St. Margaret’s Hospital.
After working for a year at a UPMC Family Practice, she returned to Bermuda in 2006. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. Dr. Kelly enjoys family time with her husband, 2 children and their dog, Milo. In her spare time, she plays the violin with local ensembles – she and Dr Sherratt-Wyer have played in orchestras together for over 30 years!
Dr. Malpreet Lidder
Dr Lidder was born in the UK and attended the Tiffin Girls’ School. She obtained her Bachelors degree in Cardiovascular Sciences in 2010 and her MBBS (medical degree) in 2012 at Imperial College London. She has worked in general surgery, emergency medicine, paediatrics, internal medicine and obstetrics and gynaecology before gaining her membership with the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2017.
Dr Lidder has also worked in Toronto Canada, where she attained her membership in the College of Family Physicians of Canada. She holds a post graduate qualification in Palliative care from the Princess Alice Hospice, UK and has undertaken an elective in Dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital New York. Dr Lidder is committed to working collaboratively with her patients and ensuring that they receive quality care.
Becky Ronaldson, Nurse
Becky is a Registered Nurse originally from the US. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in Toledo, Ohio, and then went on to obtain her Master of Science in Nursing degree focusing in Healthcare Management and Administration from Aspen University in Colorado. She has over 10+ years experience in emergency room care, and has multiple post-graduate certificates in fields such as complementary and alternative medicine, nutrition, holistic and integrative health, and meditation.
She is member of the American Holistic Nurses Association. Becky joined Somers Medical in 2022 and is enjoying the move from critical care to primary care. In her spare time she enjoys cycling and running, spending time with her family, and manages a book club for a local charity.
Vairi Furtado, Nurse
Vairi is a Bermudian Registered Nurse. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from York University, Toronto, Canada in 2011. She then went on to become a registered midwife after obtaining a Master of Science in Midwifery from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom in 2021. She has 10+ years experience as a nurse in acute and community care settings. In 2016 she became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) following a special interest in lactation support.
She moved back to Bermuda with her husband and daughter in 2021 and now has two little girls who keep her quite busy! Vairi’s areas of interest are maternal-child health care and palliative care. Vairi feels strongly about providing her clients with all the information they need to make informed choices about their health and wellbeing.
Rhonee Ford, Nurse
Rhonee’ Ford has been a Bermudian Registered Nurse for 5 years. She obtained her Associates of Science in Nursing Degree at Bermuda College in 2017. After graduating and passing her nursing boards, she began her career in various areas in Bermuda Hospitals Board and ended up on a Medical Surgical ward. In 2022 she ventured into private practice which provides her with a better work/life balance.
She is currently enrolled online through Aspen University to obtain her Bachelors Science in Nursing. She enjoys working with her team to ensure her patients are receiving the best care possible through patient centered care. In her free time she is kept busy by her bouncing 4 yr old boy and her twin teenage daughters.
Hillary Rand-Czerwinski, Nurse/Aesthetician
Hillary Rand-Czerwinski, a Bermudian, grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Saint Francis Xavier University in 2010. Hillary was drawn to the fast paced nature of Emergency Medicine and worked in both adult and pediatric trauma centers.
In 2016 Hillary and her husband moved to Bermuda and have their own Urology practice where she works as the Practice Manager and Nurse. However, Hillary has always had a keen interest in Nursing Aesthetics. Allowing people to gain confidence in their skin allows their smile to grow just a little bit more and she is relishing this challenge. In her spare time you can find Hillary running around outside with her two little kids or traveling the world when she gets the chance.
Grace Rego-Raposo, Practice Manager
Grace is our bilingual (English/Portuguese) Practice Manager. She comes with a wealth of knowledge from her 35 years experience in running all aspects of a high end luxury retailer. Her education at Bermuda College was mainly focused on Accounting but as the years moved on many other duties such as Human Resources, IT and Customer Service (to name a few) became part of her daily routine. In her free time she enjoys time with family, island exploration, home makeovers, gardening and relaxing on the beach.
Sonia Hall, Receptionist
Sonia is our Somers Medical receptionist. She has over 35 years experience in banking. Sonia attended the Berkeley Institute and the Bermuda Hotel College before leaving Bermuda to attend Clarke College in Atlanta, Georgia where she attained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. Sonia is married to Craig and loves spending time with her children and grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys walking and gardening.
Anesia Simons, Receptionist
Anesia hails from across the Caribbean sea – ‘mother nature’s best kept secret’ – Belize. She has been living in Bermuda for the past 5 years with her husband, Otis. Anesia attained her Associates Degree in Marketing Management in the year 2004, and has since worked in varying capacities, from Human Resources Clerk to Administrative Clerk in Marketing.
She has gained some 4 years experience as a Front Desk receptionist since moving to Bermuda. Anesia enjoys movie night with her sons, taking long walks watching the sun set along the beach and photography. You better Belize it!
Linda Lightbourne, Receptionist/Clerical Administrator
Linda worked as a registered nurse for over 20 years, mostly in the NHS UK but also worked on Curtis Ward for 2 years 1995-1997. She has a BA in nursing from Robert Gordon’s University Aberdeen Scotland. Since moving back to Bermuda in 2011 with her family, having had a career break she has used her experience in an administrative role within health care facilities. Linda enjoys spending time with her family and 2 dogs.
